Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Moennig's first stage success was at 10 years old in a Children's Theatre Workshop production of "Winnie the Pooh." She continued doing school productions before moving to New York at eighteen and entering the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Becoming an actress because she liked the adrenaline rush, the daughter of a Broadway dancer mother and violin maker father first came to public prominence with her portrayal of the elusive Jake Pratt on the WB's Young Americans. Currently, she can be seen as the super hot and androgynous Shane on Showtime's new lesbian series, The L Word.
